Blue and White Water Dropper or Water Coupe

Blue and White Water Dropper in the form of a bottle with a stopper This is an unusual shape for a Japanese suitaki. The form is more like a European ink bottle. The stopper functions as the dropper and the bottle the water coupe. The feature that is most interesting is the continuous narrative painting on the surface of the bottle. It depicts four fisherman dressed in rain gear and large conical shaped hats pulling a fishing boat. The theme of the painting is like a Bunjinga painting which was evocative of Chinese Southern School of landscape painting. The condition is excellent, the porcelain has a fine paste and smooth glassy finish. It is a fine example of Arita wares. Dimensions: 2 diameter and 3.25 high Date: late 19 century
