Hirado Water Coupe

Hirado Two Piece Water Dropper Little Boy hanging on to a Open Furoshiki This is the most whimsical water dropper or water coupe in the whole collection. The presentation of a little boy hanging to the wide open neck of the furoshiki and placed on a square footed stand is very well carved with great details. There are many nice details on this object, The little boy, kneeling against the furoshiki, has one hand on the edge and the other is supporting his chin. The sides are decorated with underglaze painting of flowers. A repeat lattice pattern is painted on the opening, and below that is the raised carving of the strings tied into a bow. The footed stand is decorated with blue and white stripes on the exterior and a finely painted repeat pattern is applied to the edge of the perimeter. The stand has a little chip on one of the edges and there is a firing flaw on the rim of the furoshiki. Dimensions: Boy and furoshiki 2.5 long and 1.5 high; Stand: 1.5 square and .5 high Date: 19 century
