| A teapot in a painting scroll form, possibly made to brew a type of tea leaves. The shape is interesting, and the band signifies the ribbon that ties and tightens the painting is inscribed on the body of the teapot. Connoisseurs of paintings will know that is the correct knot. The concentric circles on flat top near the spout represent the folds of the painting when it is rolled up. It is well done, the rings are evenly spaced. The lid has a three dimensional baby dragon as a finial. (I hope you like the details. As a student of art history, I just have to point that out in case.) There are variations of this form, sometimes it is a double hexagonal shape, such as the one in the Flagstaff House Museum of Hong Kong. A late 19 century date is acceptable. The potter's name is You Chun. There is no other shop mark. The rich red clay is heavy and dense. The quality is much better when compared to the lighter red clay teapots made for the export markets. The teapot is in excellent condition. There is a tiny ding under the lid, visible in the last image. Also the ribbon band on the teapot is not perfect, there are two tiny missing spots. These are small imperfections and in no way affect the quality of the teapot. The potter's name in Chinese characters - 友春 | |||||||||||||
