| Yixing Scholar Objects do not appear often and this is a gem. The circular ink box belonged to the period in Yixing history when the Yixing potters were competing against the painted porcelain teapots of Jingdezhen. This type of painting using famille rose enamels, plus dark blue painting on a lighter blue ground, and the interiors in a light turquoise glaze are good evidence of a early 19 century date. The painting on the top of the box is carefully done. Yixing objects with painted enamels are not made in large quantites and scholar objects are more rare. The object is old but still in good shape. There is a small loss of glaze on the top rim that can be noticed. There is also restoration to the dark blue on light blue enamels on the side, but I cannot tell where it is. The bottom half is in good shape. It does not look like it has been used for ink. This piece is found in the US and in a private collection for over 30 years. Dimensions: 2.5" in diameter (6.35CM) and 1.25" high (3.17cm) Will ship overseas, please email for mailing charges, generally about $18.00 for First Class Mail. | ||||||||||||
