A charming little table ornament of a bronze shepherdess with her beribboned hoe on a fire-gilt stand, which is in turn mounted on a white marble circular base, a Romantic emblem of the bucolic life. It is all original, the little figure even retaining her gold-metal sash, and dates from around 1775, French or Continental. A grand souvenir of Alaska’s Yukon gold rush is this whip or umbrella handle fashioned of handsomely figured fossil ivory and gold. Now fitted with a modern magnifying glass, it retains its high-purity gold ferule bordered with tiny gold nuggets and its 18-karat gold, square-end cap, engraved “EEP” in interlocked script. In excellent condition, the original part of this treasure measures about 11-3/4 inches long, 17-1/2 inches overall.

Here are three pieces of American coin silver flatware. The large spoon, approximately 8-3/4 inches in length bears the hallmark of A. B. Vancott, as well as English-style pseudo-hallmarks. The shell-bowled mustard spoon, circa 1850, has a bright-cut crest and is hallmarked “B. M. Chamberlain & Son Coin.” The graceful little teaspoon is hallmarked “AGF” for Abraham Gerritze Forbes, who worked in New York City from around 1769 to 1795. Lovely condition.

Wonderfully sturdy but with a delicate air is this lovely chamberstick, French. mid-Eighteenth Century. The base and candle cup are almost identical to Figure C on page 205 of THE BRASS BOOK by Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer (1978, Schiffer Publishing Ltd.), but the shell-decorated handle is pierced and counterbalanced with a finger hold underneath.
