In full sail on a bright, sunny day is portrayed the Norwegian clipper ship "Anna," originally "Anna of Bergen." Launched in 1868, she was dubbed the "Sailing Queen of Norway" and plied the seas in a long and distinguished career before being restored and retired to serving as the tall-ship training vessel she is today. Signed and dated "K Sorensen 1923," this fine diorama is in excellent condition and measures approximately 18-1/2 inches by 25-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches.

It is cunning how Chinese porcelain artists were able to copy the hand of foreign chinoiserie porcelain painters. Only the clarity of the white body suggested that it is in fact Chinese, not English or French. About 11-1/2 inches high, it is about 7-1/2 inches in full diameter and, aside for being drilled underneath for wiring, is in excellent shape. Included with the vase is its custom-made and fitted flash-gilt brass base.

In flawless and unrepaired condition, this fine silver item recalls another era, with afternoon tea a given and dinner clothes in the evening a necessity. Highly detailed and finely finished, these heavily gilded tiebacks are excellent in detail and execution. They are heavy in construction and could even be used as door handles. There is central design of bamboo surrounded by borders; the outer side show a dragon with two pheonixes flying among flames. The pride of the 1930's Matson Line was the luxury Liner "Lurline" (named for the Matsons' daughter). These cabinets, removed when the craft was renovated as a troop ship in 1942,came from the saloon of the ship and are fashioned of walnut and maple, with finely carved boxwood panels on each door. Measuring about 30 inches by 14 inches by 31-1/2 high they provide excellent lock-up storage with two shelves inside.
