Gowned in court finery and garlanded in flowers, the Goddess Flora steps into a glade of poppy capsules (?) surrounded by stylized floral borders -- beauty in full bloom! Approximately 18-1/2 inches by 21-1/2 inches and in excellent condition, this superb example of wool-and-silk needlework might once have graced a noble seat-back or fire screen, French, late Seventeenth Century to early Eighteenth Century.

This excellent specimen of Flemish weaving is made of of several sections of a much larger piece. At the top is the figure of a kneeling angel, below are cascades of verdure with borders on either side. Belgium, Sixteenth Century. The item is pieced and patched, but beautiful and healthy. Approximately 17 1/2 inches wide by 99 inches long.

An incredible tour-de-force of needlework is this small gem, combining a myriad of techniques to portray a basket of flowers surrounded by other flowers and borders, all in multicolor silks and silver-gilt threads and sequins. Back is in plain cream silk. A beautiful object for a textile collection or for a doll's house. English or Continental, circa 1810, approximately 2-1/2 inches by 2-1/8 inches.

Replete with myriad romantic subjects – people, animals, flowers, insects and birds – this finely crafted sampler is impressive. Probably British and dating from the last quarter of the Nineteenth Century, it is beautifully preserved and has been given full conservation treatment and mounting to keep it that way. The image size is approximately 15 inches by 17 inches, 22 inches by 23 inches in its burl maple and gilt fillet frame.
