Very much in the Chinese Export style is this early Nineteenth Century porcelain plate from the Davenport factory. The pure white ground is highlighted by colorful bunches of flowers, and a gilded lambrequin border echoes the gilded rim. The marks are a script “Davenport” and an inventory number, “162.” Mint condition, approximately nine inches in diameter.

Bright, practical and naive, this little gem is painted with motifs that suggest the intended contents and, should there be any doubt, the French word for tobacco is boldly emblazoned across the face. Beautiful, unbroken condition, with only some slight abrasion to the high points of the over-glaze. On the inside of the lid is an impressed hallmark: L & M, 65. French or German, circa 1870. Approximately 6-1/2 inches tall and 4-1/3 inches in diameter.

This handsome 10-1/4-inch plate features a highly romanticized lakeside scene of Pomerania, with two ladies in local costume meeting near a mill. They are accompanied by a lanky dog, clearly not your standard Pomeranian. The borders are finely executed neo-rococo, with roses and lace and pearls. Approximately 10-1/4 inches in diameter, the Piece is in excellent condition and retains an old sticker saying that it came from someone's grandmother in about 1780...

This elegant heart-shaped example of lustrous English soft paste bears the underglaze blue "S" (for Salopian) of Thomas Turner's Caughley Works, 1775 to 1790. In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, and just normal wear to the gilding, it measures eight inches by 10-7/8 by 1-3/8 inches deep.

Hand-fashioned in the Nineteenth Century for ceremonial food service, this Chinese sweetmeats box is in the form of a brilliant acid green melon, the glaze skillfully powdered on to create a natural "orange-skin" texture and depth of color. Detailing of jugs of this sort is rarely so fine, but here the artist has attempted life-like shading and veining on the flowers and leaves that adorn both sides of this piece. The whole of the bulbous body is lavish with copper luster, which covers the finely molded rim of grapevines, the fluted lip and the graceful handle. Superb condition. English, circa 1830. This very fine berry dish is impressively decorated in a gilt lattice design on a brilliant, clear ground, very like the famous Sevres apple-green glaze. A delicately rendered bouquet graces the center.Measuring approximately nine inches by 9-3/4 inches, it is excellent condition, with only minimal wear on the raised portion of the inner bowl.

Well, we’ve all heard of pink elephants, and some of us have seen a few, but here is a charming couple of other rosy critters. Flanking this handsome, generous copper luster jug are a pink luster spotted dog and a champion pink luster sheep, both in very high relief. Between them, under the jug’s lip, is displayed a scrolly-legged epergne overflowing with wildly colored flowers. The copper top and bottom sections offer bold contrast to the blue ground of the central frieze...

Dating from the early years of the Eighteenth Century, this fine example of early English earthenware relates to one in the collection of George Washington, our country's first president. It was made in about 1720 in the London area, probably at Lambeth. In excellent condition, with some professionally repaired chips one to the upper edge and several to the base, it has a chinoiserie design of passion flowers and trailing vines with an inner-rim border above a stylized flower...

This is one of two versions of this Enoch Wood (English, 1759 to 1840) bust of the Immortal Bard that we have on hand. (See Trocadero Item #14831) It is amazing what a difference the enameling can make! This model is cloaked in bright leafy green that contrasts nicely with his rather more matte yellow shirt and marbleized plinth. His hair and beard are red and he has eyebrows that would make Joan Crawford sick with envy. English, circa 1800. Mint condition...

One of two versions of the this bust of William Shakespeare that we possess (see Trocadero Item #14819) by Enoch Wood (1759 to 1840). In this one he is a brunet with a tan and gray cloak, a rather florid complexion and a gilt locket at his throat. Molded into his back is "Shakespere," I guess so we shouldn't mistake him for Vincent Price. Superb condition with some crackling to the skin tones. English, circa 1800. Approximately 8-1/2 inches high by six inches wide by 3-1/2 inches deep.

This little beer-lover is amazingly lifelike, with his beaming, pudgy face and stein held to his heart. There is an almost Roman portraiture quality to the bust, which lifts of to reveal a mustard pot. The two little barrels are for toothpicks and the original mustard spoon, stored behind the figure, is intact. It is in excellent shape with only minimal wear to the over-glaze paint and almost none to the oil gilding. French or German, late Nineteenth Century...
