This finely executed provincial Korean byobu (floor screen) has been professionally remounted in two parts. The tranquil scene of poets enjoying a tea ceremony surrounded by attendants in a peaceful pavilion is executed in suitably muted tones highlighted by firm reds and subtle gilt details. Alive with bold designs of flower-filled jardinieres and tall stands earing incense burners, this deep bowl is enameled in red and green on underglaze blue, with highlingts of gilding. There is central design of bamboo surrounded by borders; the outer side show a dragon with two pheonixes flying among flames. Not having found a similar example, I do not know if this mustard pot is American, English or Continental. The glass body, with its design of stylized scallop shells, is formed in a three-part mould, and the hinged pewter top is of good weight and secure. It probably dates from the mid-Nineteenth Century and is about four inches tall, 2-1/2 inches in diameter, with a stemmed base about 1-3/4 inches in diameter.
