A fine example of classic restraint, this solid silver biscuit box was fashioned in Amsterdam in 1881, the tray produced for it in 1919. (Yes, the biscuits are NutterButters, a secret passion...) Box is about 5-5/8 inches in diameter, three inches high; tray is seven inches in diameter, 3/4 inch high. Weight of the two pieces is about 20 ounces. Superb condition!

This unusual antique Chinese gilded architectural carving portrays a cricket on tree leaf on a seeded green ground. Finely wrought of steel and ebony, this handsome and rare "manche-a-gigot" would allow the carver-at-table to hold steady a leg-of-lamb. (This problem of service unfortunately led to the rolled-and-tied boneless -- and less succulent -- cut of lamb served at tables nowadays. And alas, no meaty bone for next-day's Scotch broth!) Excavated near Filadelfia, Costa Rico, this impressive vase is in the striking Nicoya Polychrome style. Applied to one side of the bulbous tripod body is the head of an animal, probably a jaguar or coatimundi, resting on its forearms. A band of hieroglyphs encircles the vase's collar and other designs run around the legs and in a ribbon down the back. Excellent unbroken condition, with some wear to the buff paint of the body, but with all motifs intact...
