One of two versions of the this bust of William Shakespeare that we possess (see Trocadero Item #14819) by Enoch Wood (1759 to 1840). In this one he is a brunet with a tan and gray cloak, a rather florid complexion and a gilt locket at his throat. Molded into his back is "Shakespere," I guess so we shouldn't mistake him for Vincent Price. Superb condition with some crackling to the skin tones. English, circa 1800. Approximately 8-1/2 inches high by six inches wide by 3-1/2 inches deep.

A product of Palawan Island, Philippine Archepelago, this finely crafted blowgun quiver was collected by noted anthropologist Henry Otley Beyer in his study of native Philippine ethnic culture. With its body formed of bamboo sections, a long wooden hook serves to attach the quiver to the hunter’s sash and also provides a firm closure for the top. The hook is graced with unusually skillful carvings of the prey: a wild boar and a bird...

A real woodcarving tour de force is this Art Nouveau fantasy vase, depicting a snail shell held up by ferns, the sort of thing found in majolica and silver quite often in the latter Nineteenth Century. Were it carved of a plain piece of wood it would still be a triumph, but it was formed from an elaborately pieced together parquetry of several different and contrasting woods: boxwood, ebony, etc. British or Continental, with a few chips out here and there...

A lovely bit of nostalgia for the lover of French cafe life, this porcelain pyrogene promotes quinine-laced Dubonnet, still a great favorite throughout the world, and announces that the aperitif won the Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900. The lightly crackled glaze is the drink's lovely yellow-green shade. In excellent condition, it measures around 3-5/8 inches in diameter and almost three inches high.

Three finely engraved Chinese characters are featured on a delicately hammered ground. Elegantly simple, the piece is of excellent weight and in fine condition. Approximately 3-3/4 inches in diameter and a half-inch high, it has a maker's mark "C.J."(?),"Sterling" and a Chinese character.

In excellent condition, with original mirror intact, this fine American looking-glass features a delicate verre eglomise entablature with a central design of the symbols of passionate love: flaming heart, torch and a quiver of arrows. A lovely sterling silver label with elaborate hand-formed gadroon borders and corner designs, this label has a hand-wrought silver chain. Its one hallmark, “IH” is only lightly visible. Approximately one inch by two inches. Circa 1760.
