A quite baronial product is this straight-sided sterling silver mug by the Whiting Manufacturing Company of Providence, R.I. With domino rim top and bottom, it bears a wonderful strapped and banded design over most of the body, centering on a Gothick-style cypher of a K interlocked with E and M. Superb condition, approximately 3-1/2 inches tall by 4-1/2 inches wide at the handle. Circa 1875.

In high relief and superb detail in the French Empire style is this Russian tribute to the Bourbon Restoration of 1818 after the downfall of Napoleon I. The piece is struck in two segments: the central medallion and its separately-cast frame, featuring a ring of fleurs-de-lys. In Cyrillic letters the artist's name, Lotadick, is on the underside of the bust. Russian, circa 1818. This example of rare plique-a-jour (windowpane,)gold-framed enamel was presented in 1914 to the admiral of a Russian battleship. (I have a picture of the ship inscribed by officers of the crew.) The fob is inscribed with a good-luck wish and the date of 1914 and measures about 1-1/2 inches by 3/4 inch overall. For luck the remains of the the fob's blue silk ribbon has been retained.)

Excavated near Filadelfia, Costa Rico, this impressive vase is in the striking Nicoya Polychrome style. Applied to one side of the bulbous tripod body is the head of an animal, probably a jaguar or coatimundi, resting on its forearms.
