Lifesize Santa Display

Just in time for Christmas, here comes Santa Claus in the form of an excellently painted cut-out from our country’s first Christmas store, founded by Leonard Brynolf Johnson in 1932 at Smethport, Pennsylvania. Dating from around 1945, the jolly old man, with his bag of gifts and “Merry Christmas” scrolls is 61 inches tall and 39 inches wide. Hand-painted on construction board and bearing Johnson’s label, it is in excellent condition and unbolts into two parts for shipping and storage. This will be the star of any holiday collection. P.S.: A nice note from Johnson's son: I noted the Santa when looking at my father's bio on the Web! I am his son and remember when he sold such Santas for about $25! I recall those years when he made hundreds of people happy at Christmas with his displays. I hope you get a buyer who will keep it as a real antique of Americana! L. Morris Johnson
