Important bronze statue of Venus, published.
A ROMAN BRONZE FIGURE OF APHRODITE CIRCA MID/LATE 1ST CENTURY A.D. The naked goddess standing with weight on left leg, her right leg bent at the knee, and with a slight twist to her torso, holding a thick garland in her raised right hand, her left arm lowered by her side, her head turned slightly to the left, wearing a high diadem with openwork edge, her hair centrally parted and drawn into a chignon at the nape of her neck, a thick double layered fringe over her forehead, with ringlets falling onto each shoulder, standing on original corniced base with squared feet, one now missing, mounted 12 in. (31 cm.) high incl. base Provenance Formerly in a Japanese collection, acquired from Galerie Orient-Occident, Paris, 1988. Published: Christie's, 25/11/2006. Antiquities sale, London, lot132.
