Greece 4th – 3rd Century B.C. Glass and Low-carat Gold Ø 20 mm; Intaglio: 13x11 mm In good condition, although some slight erosion can be found on the surface of the crystal. Oval intaglio depicting Menelaus holding the dead body of Patroclus. Mounted on a low-carat gold ring from the Victorian era (19th Century). The most famous representation of this scene is displayed in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, and is a Roman copy of the Greek original It’s published in “HEPHAESTUS LEGACY. A memorial to a private collection of ancient rings and glyptics”. Number 169
