This rare and unusual ivory carving of a sage is an early 20th century product. It is 10” high (with fitted hard wood base, it is 11” high), 3 ½” wide and 3” thick both measured from bottom. This image is the great Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist Li Shi-Zhen (李 時 珍, 1518~1593). Li Shi-Zhen is considered to be one of the greatest naturalists in China. This very well carved ivory okimono of a Chinese merchant is a late Meiji period product. It is 5” high, 2” wide and 1 ½” thick at the thickest part. It depicts a Chinese merchant with his hands in his sleeves, resting them in front of him. The artist did a great job on his facial expression and dress which includes a typical Chinese old fashioned two piece robe and hat. This early 20th century ivory carving of a maiden is 15 7/8” high (17 ½” with base), 3 ½” wide and 2 7/8” thick. She wears a simple and elegant robe and holds a bouquet of flowers in front of her. The carving is superb and has nice patina. The wood base is a later made piece. Aside from some small hair line cracks due to its age, the statue is in great condition. This late 19th century export white porcelain duck is 7 ½” long, 4 7/8” high and 4” wide. It has a white body and beige beak and feet. Aside from some tiny blisters due to the firing, it is in great condition.

This beautifully fired celadon tokkuri (sake bottle) was made by Minegishi Seiko (b. 1952). Minegishi is one of the finest artists currently working in the style in Japan. His trademark fluted skirt appears around the base of the sake bottle. This very nicely fired crusty style Bizen guinomi (sake cup) was made by Hosokawa Takahiro who is one of the very talented young potters working in Bizen today. His work is popular in Japan and very reasonably priced for the quality of the firing. It is 2 3/4” high and 2” in diameter. The artist name and seal are on the top of the original wood box; his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.

This very finely fired guinomi (sake cup) was made by Ikenishi Goh (b. 1961) who is one of the finest younger potters working in Bizen today. The style is a darker style of Bizen ware called Inbe (or Imbe), whereby an iron wash is applied to the surface of the guinomi before firing, giving the body a very dark color. This Japanese walrus tusk carving of a young maiden is a late-19th century or early 20th century product. It is 7 Ό” high (8 7/8” high with wood base) and 2 Ύ” wide. It depicts a young maiden holding a long necked vase in one hand and a long stemmed flower in her other hand. There is a tall stand beside her with an incense burner. The statue is permanently mounted on the carved wood base. It is in great condition.

This nicely executed silver alloy tea pot is a late-19th century product. It is 8” high (9 ½” high with handle extended) and 9” wide at the spout. The body is 6 Ό” wide. The famous 8 immortals and their symbols appear over the entire hexagonal body and cover. The spout is the shape of a mythical animal, PiXie. The knob on the cover of the teapot is a seated PiXie. There is an honorable mark “Great Qing Qian Long” stamped on the bottom. It is in great condition.
