This early 20th century Chinese ceramic carved white brush holder is 5 ¼” high and 3 ¾” in diameter. It depicts a tiger standing on top of mountain surround by far away mountains, pine trees and bamboo. There are peony and small chrysanthemums beneath the tiger and a lucky bat is flying on the top. The seal of the maker, Chen Guo Zhi, is carved on the bottom. Chen Guo Zhi (1821~1861) was a well known artist. He was born and raised in An Hui province, but spent most of his time in Jin De county, Jian Xi province which is the capital city of the ceramic industry in China. The brush holder was made in his studio and is in excellent condition.
