Contemporary Nezumi Shino guinomi by Sakai Kobu

This very finely potted and fired brown Nezumi Shino guinomi (sake cup) was made by one of the finest Shino style potters in Japan today, Sakai Kobu. Sakai has been designated a Toki City Intangible Cultural Property (local level award similar to the national Living National Treasure designation). Toki city was the birthplace of Shino wares in the 16th century. He is noted for the many styles of his fine Shino wares. Please note the iridescent glaze areas inside the guinomi. It is 2” high and 2 ¾” in diameter. There is a maker’s mark on the bottom. It is in excellent condition.
