Contemporary Ao-Shodai yaki guinomi by Inoue Taisho
$200.00

This very nice blue glazed Shodai yaki guinomi (sake cup) was made by veteran potter Inoue Taisho (1941~), who many consider would be the overwhelming choice for the Living National Treasure designation were it ever to be awarded for Shodai yaki style ceramics. This style evolved in southern Japan and is a very old native style based on the use of iron rich clays, with iron glazes overlaid with rice straw ash glaze. His work is not commonly seen outside of Japan. The artist’s signature is on the inside of the original wood box and his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is 2” high and 2 ¾” wide. It is in excellent condition.
