This molded Chinese Qing Dynasty Jia Qing Period (1796~1820) export blue and white vase is 7 1/8” high, 3 ½” on the widest part and 2 ½” thick. It depicts an open mouthed dragon fish jumping out of the water. According to Chinese legend, if a fish (carp) can jump over the “Dragon Gate” in the Yellow River, it will turn into a dragon. The story has been used to encourage youngsters to reach their goals. Aside from a small gold lacquer repair (Japanese style) on the dragon horn, it is in great condition.
