Japanese print by Ishiwata Koitsu( 1897-1987 ) DOG SHOW
This was printed in 1931 by Watanabe and carries the Watanabe B seal used 1927-1932. Thus, it could be considered a 1st edition. Excellent color, impression and condition; never mounted.
Ishiwata worked for Watanabe during the 1930's and is sometimes confused with Tsuchiya Koitsu, who also worked for Watanabe publishing. Ishiwata's prints weren't popular with the Western buyers that Watanabe catered to at the time and so didn't sell well. He later joined another publisher.
Tending to be subtle and dark in color, his prints treat the everyday life of the Japanese during the thirties, subjects which didn't interest Watanabe's western customers of the time. Hence, his prints are extremely rare nowadays.
