Both decorative and functional, 19th Century Balance Scale by H. Troemner, Philadelphia. Henry Troemner began his company in 1838, and the business continues today, under different ownership. This wonderful piece has the two original brass balance trays (with impressed eagle logo), and 7 various weights which may or may not be original to the scales, incised wooden box containing the works, and a thick marble top which is completely intact. Box is 19" x 8.75" x 5.50" tall; trays are 8" diameter, and they add 2" in height to the piece when level. The scale works (see center viewing window), although we do not guarantee that the calibration is correct. The company does offer calibration services; find on the web at troemner.com. Interesting history can be found at this web address: humboldt .edu/~scimus/Manufac /Troemner/Troemner.htm Wooden Case and all accompanying parts in excellent condition, with normal wear, oxidation to the metal {we have not removed top pieces, nor looked inside}. c. 1838+ $35.00 US Shipping. Addendum: A nice gentleman from Troemner has kindly provided us with the following, very helpful information on the scale: "Your balance is listed in Troemner's 1899 catalog as: Lake Side Box Counter Scale. Fig. 195. in ash box, with Tennessee marble top, dia of pans 8 in. capacity 20 lbs. price $ 10.75." Our sincere thanks. |
