Sherry Goblets, most likely from the Venetian glass house of Salviati Dott. Antonio, late 19th Century, into the 20th century. One sherry, the tallest of four, retains the distributor's San Marcos Square label. It is rare to find any sort of label remaining on the old Venetian glass, making this individual piece more valuable, as well as lending further authenticity to the remaining three goblets. Each goblet has an eight-sided bowl, with sharp, distinct corners; and eight, "drip prunts" are attached around the base of the bowl. An ovid ball, with twisting ribs, attaches the bowl to the stem. The foot of each goblet has a folded, reinforced rim, and each with the sharp, center pontil. The labeled goblet (No. 2157) measures approximately 6.75" tall, 3.125" rim diameter, 2.75" foot diameter. The remaining three goblets (Nos. 2158, 2159, 2160) are slightly shorter, at 6.25", 3" rim diameter, and 2.75" foot diameter. All are created in clear glass, with teal prunt drips, and much gold. Faded foil label on 2157 reads: "G. GIACOBBE, Murano Glassware, Made in Italy, Venezia, Plaza S. Marco, 71A." All pieces in excellent condition. c. 1985-1910. $235 No. 2157 (1 only). $190 each, No. 2158-2160. NOTE: All items have been sold. |
