Both published in 1946, as the first trade edition, by Crown Publishers, New York, following the first limited edition in 1939 by Derrydale Press. Hardback, cloth covers, gilded spines, both volumes slightly faded, Vol 2 more faded than Vol 1. Pages are in excellent condition with no markings, bends, tears. A very collectible set. Original slipcase is missing, and there are no dust jackets. Fascinating reading, even if one never prepares a single recipe. In Volume 1, Exotic Drinks, Mr. Baker offers histories of various drinks, relates fun and interesting stories around imbibing, as well as numerous original, traditional recipes for famous and infamous drinks through the ages. One fascinating section includes the history of the first Daiquiri, and something called "Ernest Hemingway's Reviver." In the Exotic Cookery Book, the reader will delight to numerous "succulent exotics" in recipes, histories of foods, herbal guides, and deliciously on and on. A Connoisseur's set to treasure.
