James Powell Ruffled Compote Opalescent Vaseline 19th C

James Powell Opalescent Venetian Revival 19th Century mouthblown, art glass compote, tazza. Ribbons of blue-green opalescence swirl in one effort, from the base, all the way to the tip of the outer ruffle where it becomes a 1-inch concentrated border. Pedestal base is hollow and open at the bowl center; crimped & ruffled edge of bowl is rolled; sharp pontil with flake, likely from time of manufacture (pictured). Slight discoloration to the inside base. Fluoresces under black light. Very likely by James Powell & Sons, England, who produced many similar pieces in "Vaseline" from the 1870s. 8.75" (22.22 cm) diameter, 4.75" (12.06 cm) high. Excellent condition. c. late 1800s. $18 US Shipping.
