Signed, numbered, limited edition, porcelain "Bing Crosby Rose." There is acutally a real Hybrid rose named after Bing Crosby (1904 - 1977), and this delicate porcelain is an exact replica of that magnificent flower, a deep, very vivid, orange. Our Bing Crosby Rose was designed by Diane M. Lewis, for Connoisseur of Malvern, England, a fine porcelain company begun in the last quarter of the 20th Century. The company rose quickly in the 1980s to be regarded as one of England's outstanding manufacturers of decorative porcelain, and shortly expanding to the U.S., where even certain early limited editions sold for thousands of dollars. Each item produced has a series of clandestine marks which one may research to discover the names of all the artists who contributed to that particular piece. The butterly logo signifies the philosophy that the piece is created from the point of view of the butterfly. Measuring 8" (20.32 cm) wide, 5.5" (13.97 cm) deep, 5.25" (13.33 cm) tall, 5.5" (13.97 cm) rose diameter. Signed on the base as follows: "As seen through the eyes of a Butterfly, Connoisseur of Malvern, Bing Crosby Rose, Diane M. Lewis, This is number 9 of an edition of 200, Year of issue, 1981, Fine Bone China, Made in England." In addition, to the right, on the twig, we find four symbols, signifying the signatures of four artists who worked on this piece. Condition is excellent and undamaged. Shipping of so delicate an item is a challenge, and is priced accordingly at $70 US Expedited Shipping. c. 1981. |
