Victorian Vase Pair Cased Art Glass Stevens & Williams

Precious pair of English Mouthblown Art Glass Vases, attributed to Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, England, blue cased rims and neck, over creamy white glass which appears custard-yellow in some lighting. The thorned handles have an opalescent fire when held to the light. Some of the raised gilding remains on the front floral pattern, but most of the gilding has worn away, revealing the still attractive under-enamel in an amethyst color. The rims have a perfectly crimped and ruffled edge which was popular in the 19th Century, although the shape of these is unusual and most pleasing. Signs of the broken pontils are visible on both bases, and one retains the scant remains of a label. 5" (12.7 cm) tall, 4" (10.16 cm) handle-to-handle . Both vases have small inclusions and other manufacturing imperfections, typical of the time and technique. Condition of both vases is excellent. c. 1850-1880. $20 US Shipping.
