Rare Bohemian Josephinenhutte Enameled Art Glass Vase
Documented, made in 1900 (see photo), this beautiful, delicate Bohemian Vase was made by Josephinenhutte, in Schrieberhau, Riesengebirge, in Central Europe. Seltener Böhmischer Josephinenhutte Emaillierter Kunst-Glas-Vase. The glass house, itself, was established in 1842 by Count Leopold Schaffgotsch, and later, in the early 20th century, merged with the firm of Fritz Heckert (see our Heckert goblet Item no. 3496). Style and quality of this glass is often compared to Moser and Lobmeyr; Gary Bladwin, in his book Moser Artistic Glass, 2nd Ed., states that Josephinenhutte "...produced glassware equal in quality to the best produced by Bohemian manufacturers." He also describes a piece in a similar pattern as having been enameled in the "Islamic style."

This piece is unsigned, measures 5.25" (13.33 cm) tall, 1.75" (4.44 cm) at the opening and the base. The vase is thin, pink glass in a matte finish iridescence which emits subtle shades of blue in certain light. The same pattern is applied to both sides of the vase in gilt-enamel decoration, with areas of red, white, blue, and green opaque enamel; two applied handles adorn the sides. With only the most slight, scattered loss of gilding, we consider this piece to be in excellent condition. $14 US Shipping.
