An early collectible brown and tan edition with jacket published by Grosset in 1928. The notable "wtih" for "with" is on page 4, line 25. The jacket is worn with tears, the overlap has separated and there is old tape. Also, the top corner of the textblock has darkening and the extreme spine is slightly worn ( see photos). Sold as is.

A hard copy with green linen boards written by Edward Bulwer Lytton ( Lord Lytton) and published in 1897 by Little Brown & Co /New York Athenaeum Society. The pages have yellowed, there is a faint halo that runs from the title page to page one. An owner's name is on the front free paper and another free paper has a stamp on it...The corners of the boards are worn and there is a very slight separation between the title and copyright page ( see photo).Uncut pages. 354pp.

It continues throughout the book- for example page 25 has a three (3) in the corner, page 121 a 9, 137 a 10 up to page 361 which has a 24. The pages have yellowed, there is foxing and page 43 has a small tear. There are also light smudges on some pages..The spine is slightly loose and cocked and the green boards show wear.383pp.
