A 19th Century oil on canvas faintly signed in the lower right corner. Tait was born in Cincinnati. In 1853, he traveled abroad with his teacher, William Louis Sonntag. In addition to being an artist, Tait was also recognized as a poet and writer.
The painting has craquelure and appears to have an egg tempura varnish. The frame measures 18" x 29", the canvas approximately 12" x 24".
