Made in a two-part mold, this lamp is one of the most common and emblematic of the Byzantine period. The central fill hole is enclosed by an inner and outer rim, the outer of which connects to the wick hole and forms the center of a stylized palm tree above the nozzle. The shoulders of the lamp bear Greek inscription “The light of Christ enlightens us all”. There is no handle on the lamp and it sits on a ring base.
