c. 1st Century A.D.
A small, cast bronze inkwell with a circular body with ribbing, standing on a stemmed foot. A raised rim supports two geometric terminals from which hangs a bail handle. From the handle hangs an ancient chain used for suspension. Found in Jerusalem. Very good condition with natural patina throughout.
As bronze inkwells were used in only the richest of roman households such survivals are extremely rare.
