A LARGE BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP

c. 6th -7th Century A.D.
Mold-made with a large fill-hole and an integral nozzle with two wick holes present on a ring base. The nozzle is decorated with a stylized palm tree with two stylized “flights of stairs” on either side. A large handle is present and is decorated with four circles around a central raised dot. This may be a stylized cross or a reference to the five wounds of Christ.
In excellent and original condition. Found in Bethlehem.
