In very fine condition with natural patina present.

AN ISRAELITE OIL LAMP

This wheel made oil lamp site on a low disc base with an everted rim and pinched spout to form the wick hole. So popular were these lamps during the Iron Age that evidence of their use can be found throughout Israel.

In very fine condition.

Both of these items would have been ubiquitous in the Iron Age household of the Levant. The dipper juglet was used for the removal of oil from the larger storage amphorae. These dipper juglets would then be used to fill household items such as this oil lamp.

“Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. In the tent of meeting, outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the Lord from evening till morning. (Exodus 27: 20-21)
