c. 5th-6th Century CE
This beautiful Byzantine lamp is made in a two part mold with remnants of red slip still present. The handle is large and flat and serves to break up the scene depicted on the shoulders in addition to its functional purpose. Collectively the figures on the lamp depict a hunting scene in high relief. On the left stands a hunter, above the wick hole a running dog is depicted and on the right shoulder is a rabbit. Concentric circles are in the field. The lamp stands on a ring base which is decorated with five concentric circles.
