This collection includes seven bronze coins of the Seleucid dynasty depicting various deities on the reverse. As with the majority of ancient cultures, appeasing and honoring the gods was of utmost importance. One way of doing this was to place them on your coinage. This same sentiment can be seen in the attribution of ancient cities to deities. It was believed that by making a god your city god they would be more likely to protect said city. In the same way, by invoking the gods on the coinage of a city of empire the issuer hoped to obtain their favor.

Obverse: Radiate of diademed bust of the king.
