| Superb Russian silver and shaded enamel eggcup by Nikolai Alexeiev, manufactured in Moscow between 1896-1907. Of traditional form, the egg cup is comprised of two sections, namely the cup & a screw-in foot. The cup is enameled with oriental-style florals against a white ground, the front enameled with a high quality gloss miniature of two kissing putti, seated among clouds. The rim of the cup is enameled with turquoise "scales" while the base of the cup and the foot are enameled with traditional polychrome arches. Standing approximately 2 5/8" (6.7 cm) tall and measuring 1 15/16" (5 cm) across, the eggcup weighs 2.3 oz (65.5 grams) and is marked in the field for Moscow, 1896-1907 in 84 standard silver; it is also marked for Nikolai Alexeiev under the foot. An extremely unusual and rare example. Condition: some minor repair to the white ground on the reverse of the cup; otherwise fine. | ||
