| Russian gold and guilloche enameled striker by Ivan Bragin between 1908-1917. Of traditional form, each side of the piece is engine-turned with two bands of acanthus leaves flooded with translucent pale green translucent enamel. The central rectangle is turned in a wavy sunray pattern and flooded with a deep red translucent enamel. The spine is turned with a scale pattern and enameled in translucent oyster white. The guilloched surfaces are bordered with opaque white champleve enamel and the exposed gold edgings, engraved with dot-and-dash patterns. The open channel is set with a flint strip for striking. Released with a 45 degree twist, the gold striking rod is topped with a fluted knob, topped with a cabochon sapphire. Weighing 1.06 oz (30 grams), the striker measures 1 9/16" (4 cm) long by 1 3/16" (3 cm) and is marked under the base: IB (Cyrillic) 56 zolotnik gold (14 K) and a right-facing kokoshnik. | ||
