| Superb Russian silver & shaded enamel match box cover by Feodor Ruckert, finely decorated with a mythical bird on each side. Scrolling floral motifs surround the birds on each side, set against cream grounds; the enamelwork is of exceptionally high quality. On each of the remaining three sides with vertical surfaces, shaded floral and white pellets punctuate turquoise fields. Measuring 1 13/16" long by 1 5/15" wide by 5/8" tall, this is a small jewel clearly showing Ruckert's mastery of the enameler's art. Gilded on the interior, the piece is marked in the field for manufacture between 1896-1908 in 88 standard silver; maker's mark is absent, possibly engulfed in the enamel. Incredible detail for a piece of this size. | ||
