| Superb and rare Russian silver kovsh, enameled in translucent turquoise enamel over guilloched ground on the interior and in exceptionally finely executed polychrome cloisonne enamel against a gilded stippled ground on the exterior. Of marquise form with a flat handle, the prow is topped with a pinecone finial. In excellent condition, the top-surface of the handle is enameled en suite around a circular reserve (un-engraved) for a monogram. Measuring 6" in length and 2 5/8" across, the kovsh weighs 4.1 oz (116 grams). It is clearly marked under the base for AP (Cyrillic) ST Petersburg manufacture between 1896 - 1907; it also sports the scratched inventory number 5024. This maker's mark appears most frequently in conjunction with the renowned Grachev Brothers of ST Petersburg. | ||
