| Spectacular Russian silver & shaded enamel cigarette case with an en plein landscape miniature on one side and an cloisonne landscape miniature on the reverse. Of traditional form, the case is fully enameled in superb quality shaded scrolling florals against moss green & cream grounds. On each side, the shaded enamelwork forms an organically shaped frame around the miniature. The en plein miniature depicts a hazily lit snowy winter landscape of a windmill at a stream. The cloisonne miniature on the reverse depicts a green-roofed castle, rolling fields and a lake against a summertime sunrise. The combination of shaded cloisonne and an en plein miniature is rare; to find both an en plein & cloisonne miniature on one case in combination with shaded cloisonne is highly unusual. The case measures 4 9/16" (11.6 cm) by 3 7/16" (8.75 cm) and weighs approximately 8.5 oz (240 grams). the interior is gilded and it is marked in the field for the 6th Moscow Artel, manufacture between 1908-1917 in 84 standard silver. | ||
