| A Russian silver & shaded enamel kovsh by renowned female enamelist Maria Semenova. Of traditional form, this wonderful piece is entirely engulfed in exceptional quality scrolling floral designs against celedon green, blue and cream grounds, the latter separated by neo-rococo "scrolls" in burnt red enamel. The enameled grounds are further punctuated with hollow gilded cloisonnes as well as raised un-raised gilded whorls. Appropriately gilded, the handle is enameled en suite and edged with turquoise beads; it is fully hallmarked under the base for Maria Semenova, 84 standard silver and manufacture in Moscow between 1908-1917 and also bears a scratched inventory number 3419C. Measuring 5" (12.7 cm) in length by 2 7/8" (7.3 cm) in length, the kovsh weighs 4.8 8oz (138.3 grams). | ||
