This is one of the most beautiful and ornate of the Art Nouveau designs produced by the Gorham Silver Company in the late 1800's. The design is a combination of all that is Art Nouveau: shells, scrolls, leaves, flowers, fruit, puti and a semi nude woman holding a lyre...

I date this adorable postage stamp box to the early 1900's. The ring and jump ring suggest that the box was used on a chatelaine. Now it could be used as an unusual pendant or simply carried in a pocket and used to hold pills. Very secure closure.
