One souvenir is an extraordinary silver and gold embroidered elephant with a red velvet blanket - also embroidered with gold thread - spelling out "IKE." It measures 3 1/2" by 1 1/2" and is in undamaged, original condition - even to the elephant's blue beaded eye...

Dated 1935, this is truly representative of the High Deco artistic style.
In excellent condition -- with strong detail and good patina.
The reverse of the pendant shows the slaying of the mythical many headed hydra which guarded the river Styx (the Greek river to the underworld). If my mythology is incorrect, please let me know!
I assume the slaying of the hydra is a metaphor for Mayor La Guardia's taming of the wild elements of NYC.
