1960's Sterling, Pietra Dura Cuff Links - Saks 5th

Measurements: Cuff Link TOP: 1" square each - depth: 1/8"

Traditional "T bar" findings in excellent working condition.

Original Saks Fifth Avenue (New York department store) box included (covered in medium blue faux silk).

The top of each link is made of true pietra dura set into a tight florentined, silver vermeil square bezel.

The term "pietra dura" means "hard stone" and originated in 16th century Italy. The hard stones (ex. tiger eye, jasper, agate, moonstone, rose quartz, etc.) were used to create amazing mosaics. These cuff links are set with a random pattern of hard stones, rather than the more traditional pictorial mosaics. The stone design was then covered with a layer of clear lacquer for protection.

Photographed unpolished.
