Miniature Ivory Decoy Inupiat Carving: Ted Mayac Jr.

Measurements: LENGTH tip of beak to tail: 3 1/4" - WIDTH: 1 3/8" - HEIGHT: 1 3/8"

This is a walrus ivory miniature decoy carving signed by Ted Mayac, Jr. dating to the 1970's. Ted Mayac, Jr. is a well known Alaskan Eskimo (Inupiat) carver, as was his father, Ted Mayac, Sr.

Both carvers worked in ivory and bone as well as manmade substances. This carving is of walrus ivory and is a lovely example of modern Alaskana.

The carving is incised with lines and crosshatchings used to show feather design. The lines were then colored in using black inks. These markings are VERY detailed and accurate.

No damages to the carving except that the joint between the neck and body has worked loose, so that there is a tiny bit of movement which reveals the joint line that would originally have been invisible. I have priced the carving to reflect this.
