The design motifs on the top, sides and bottom of this wonderful box were created in a combination of machine turning and hand scribed detail - except for the nautical scene in the center of the top, which is entirely hand etched or scribed.

My best guess as to the theme of the central design is either the rescue of a sailor by mermaids or, the luring of a sailor to his death by the Siren mermaids, or.......who knows what they are up to?

In excellent condition (even the beveled mirror) without any repairs.
