Originally designed as a watch pin, this lovely winged creature is nicely molded, with a diamond eye. The reverse shows a C-clasp, and a tiny bit of solder where the watch hook was removed. There is a small nick to the edge, mostly visible from the back. It was probably made in Newark, N.J. It measures 1 inch by 1 inch at its widest points.

A nice quality pin with a graceful design, set with a dyed blue chalcedony. It is American, with a maker’s mark of conjoined JM for Joseph Masaniello, a New York jewelry artisan who worked during the 1940s and 1950s, and was a friend and contemporary of Carl Ruopoli. The pin is formed as stylized calla lilies and leaves, with vine-like curls. It’s a substantial piece and measures 2 3/4 inches long by 1 1/8 inches wide.

Here is a necklace with a great modernist look by a master jeweler of the period, Ed Levin, who died in May 2008. It is his collar style, set with a cabochon amethyst, and made of a gilded metal. The result is a coppery finish; inside the collar is Levin’s name in script letters and ‘Bronze.’ The well-designed collar is quite comfortable and lies nicely at the base of the neck. It measures 3/8 inch at the front, its widest area, and about 14 inches inside circumference.

These charming earrings were made in Israel of .935 silver; only one is marked. They are decorated in multicolored enamels on a lime green background, with a design of stylized fish defined by applied thin strips of metal or silver. Both earrings appear to have some sort of maker’s mark on each clip back. They measure 3/4 inch in diameter.

Here is a copper necklace with a sophisticated look that works for a variety of occasions. Made by Renoir of California, it lies neatly around the neck like a collar of copper fringe. It is nicely designed with alternating groups of graduated flat links, and has a secure fold-over clasp that bears the Renoir mark. Copper is almost as bright as the day it was made, mostly due to Renoir’s special coating to preserve the metal’s luster. Total length is 15 inches; widest links measure 1 inch...
