| This charming cast sterling silver box is formed as a walnut, with a deeply textured and oxidized surface. It has a strong working hinge and closes somewhat securely; a competent jeweler or silversmith could probably achieve a tighter closure. The rim of the bottom piece bears the mark of S. Cottle & Co., a New York workshop that produced quality gold and silver novelty items from 1877 to 1920. The walnut has a bail for use as a pendant or charm. It measures about 1 ¼ inches long, not including the top ring, and about 3 inches in diameter around the middle. Weight: 8.3 grams | ||
