Japanese Nesting Kataguchi: 3 Spouted
Bowls

Late Edo or Early Meiji era, probably Kasamayaki. Largest 6" diam (not including spout) x 3" high med 4.9" x 2.25" small 4" x 2" Excellent condition; a miniscule chip on the bottom of the medium spout, and kiln spur breaks on bottom of smallest bowl. These bowls appear to be from the Kasama kilns of Ibaraki prefecture. Kasama is close to Mashiko, famous for its folk style teapots. Pottery was first made in the late 18th century in Kasama, initiated by a pottery from Shigaraki. Large amounts of utilitarian ceramics such as this were made in this region of north-central Japan. While the area's pottery all share similar characteristics, Kasama-yaki often has this particular colored jade green glaze.
